Growing Your Own Avocado Plant: it’s That Simple

Are you so fond of avocado that you would like to grow your own tree from it? The good news is possible too! We explain how:

Okay, okay … you have to have a lot of patience for it if you want to be able to read it. But we also really like to see the avocado plants.

With the following step-by-step plan, we explain how to grow your own avocado plant:

Step 1

Cut open your avocado, eat it, and carefully remove the kernel. It is important that you do not damage the kernel with your knife.

The pit is the basis of your plant-to-be. But before you start growing it, it is necessary that you first clean it very well to prevent it from rotting.

Then prepare the following:

– Satay sticks

– Glass of water

Step 2

Insert the satay sticks through the pit, so that you have protruding sticks on two or four sides, and let the pit balance with the sticks on the glass. Then fill the glass with water until the pit is about 2 centimeters underwater.

 Step 3

Place the glass with the seed in a sunny and warm place and wait!

Step 4

Change the water every other day and make sure that the seed always touches the water. After two to three weeks, the kernel will gently burst open and roots should grow out a few days later.

Step 5

If the roots are 5 to 10 centimeters long, you can move the seed to a pot with potting soil. Make sure that the pit has enough room to grow. A pot with a diameter of at least 15 centimeters is recommended.

Step 6

From now on it’s just a matter of waiting and continuing to take good care. Do you want to literally reap the benefits? Then you have to be extra patient, because only after seven years will ripe fruit grow on it.
